Impacts of Technology

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍Ultrasounds exams‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ are a good way to look out for any ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍medical problems in the body to help point out any abnormalities such as tumors, movement of internal organs, and blood flowing through the blood vessels.‍‍‍ People have different choices of how they will like to get thir ultra sound such as 2D, 3D, and 4D. People may find that ultra sound examinations may be expensive especially if they don't have insurance. The costs of ultra sound vary in price throughtout the country .

4D Ultrasound

Ultrasound technology has had a major impact on government, health care, and politics. For example, "in Florida, ultrasounds are required before all second and third-trimester abortions to determine the gestational age and location of fetus.."‍‍‍‍‍("Abortion Ultrasound," 2010, p.10).‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍With the advancement of ultrasound technology, many states are requiring women to have ultrasound before having an abortion. The main reason why‍‍ the government ‍‍have decided to do this is because "an ultrasound image now has its own cultural force. The fetus is something that can have its picture taken. It is expected to work upon the viewer an emotional transformation, which would in turn inspire the desired behavior" (LeVine, 2010, p.124). LeVine, (2010), also stated "..critics also contend that this requirement is a thinly veiled attempt to make woman realize what they are about to do, and how traumatic their decision is once they decide to terminate the pregnancy"(p.124).

‍‍‍‍Military Medicine
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍The‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ number of deaths on the battlefield have decreased for the military, since surgeons have been using their new "miniature technology". This technology includes small-scale versions of blood testing, oxygen, ultrasound, and ventilation equipment, which can normally take up a lot of space. The mini hospitals being set up for the military are using tiny ultrasound machines that gets rid of the need to use larger X-ray equipment. In the treatment of life threatening emergencies that have to do with anatomical areas of the body, ultrasound is a significant need because it offers quick analysis for patients. It is extremely important for the intensely-ill and wounded patient to have the instantaneous image of their body structure that permits appropriate treatment. Ultrasound should be used in primary diagnosis because it is very precise, and it helps in diminishing the unnecessary surgical trauma ("Techtalk", 2005, p.7-8).
